Thank you

Thank you to all of the parents and community members who helped to make our Fall Festival a success.   Thank you to all the people who donated items for the festival and volunteered their time to work at the different stations.   The Fall Festival was a great success and everyone had a special time.

 Holiday Gifts

The teachers and staff would like to remind the students to please write notes and draw pictures for holiday gifts instead of purchasing gifts.   It is important to remember the spirit of the holidays is not always expressed with money.

Yearbooks

Money for the yearbook is due before Winter break.  The yearbook will be $28.00 after Winter break.    Baby picture ads for fifth grade students will be due December 18 so we can plan accordingly for space.

Holiday Music Programs

The K-2 music program will be Dec. 8 at 6:30.  The students are asked to wear red and/or green clothing.

The music program for the 3-5 grades will be Dec. 15 at 6:30.  The children who have main parts know what their costume will be and the rest of the children get to choose.  If they want to be an elf they need to wear green and red; and if they want to be a reindeer they are to wear brown.

Parent Volunteer Training

Friendly reminder, if you plan to visit your child's class while children are present, you need to attend the Parent Volunteer Training.  Parents please remember if you want to observe, work in the classroom, participate in class parties, or attend field trips, you will need to have parent training.   If you had training last year you do not have to repeat it. This is a quick fifteen minute training that must be completed before you are allowed to work with the children.

Car Rider Line

In order to make certain the car rider doors remain open for afternoon car riders, we ask that you be in line by 2:30. We close the back doors when the last name has been called in the line and then walk the remaining students to the office. Being in line by 2:30 will ensure parents do not have to get out of their car and come in the office to pick up their child.

Early Out Emergency Plans

It never hurts to plan for snow even though we haven’t seen much over the past several years.  We still like to be prepared.  At the beginning of the school year you should have filled out an Early Out plan that would lay out how your child would go home in the event that school was released early due to bad weather.  If you did not fill one out, if your plans have changed, or if you just can’t remember what you said; than please complete the form on the back of this sheet and return it to your child’s teachers.  It is not possible to call and notify you when school is out so you will need to listen to radio or television when these events occur.  We also ask that you do not call into the school on these days to change plans unless it is an extreme emergency.  These are some of the most hectic days of the year and our job is to keep our children safe and secure.  Thank you for your help.

REMINDER:  After school day care will not be available on these days.

Reading Recovery

Andersonville Elementary offers the Reading Recovery program.  It is a reading intervention program designed for first graders.  It is a national and international reading program, but not all school systems in Tennessee are fortunate enough to have the program offered by their school districts.  All nine elementary schools in Anderson County have the program!  Your two Reading Recovery teachers at AES are Sheila Wallace and Nancy Mawhinney.

Medicines at school

Please remember students are not allowed to have any over the counter medications. (Examples: cough drops, Tylenol, lotions, cold sore medicines)    The county code of conduct says that all over the counter medications including lotions must be given to the office personnel and accompanied by the correct paperwork for use.  If you have any questions please see the code of conduct on the Anderson County web page or check your copy of the code of conduct.
